Intramural Soccer, Softball Signups Open

Faculty, staff and students who want to join or create an intramural soccer or softball team must register on IMLeagues.com. The site tracks upcoming sports, schedules, rosters, games, rulebooks, etc. for the University’s Intramural Sports program.

The deadline to register a team roster is Thursday, May 13 at 2 p.m. A mandatory virtual meeting for captains and athletic chairs to review league and COVID-19 regulations will be at 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 14. 

Games will be played May 17-June 10.

Weekly rapid testing through the Recreation Center will continue just as it has been administered for intramural volleyball and basketball. Participants are required to be tested weekly to play. Testing dates, times and additional info will be sent to all athletic chairs and captains who register their teams by the deadline.

Kettering Student Gets SME Scholarship

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers Foundation awarded Kettering University’s Chelsea Wright (’21, IE) a $2,500 Scholarship.

Wright is currently serving as the Kettering Student Government President for A Section. She is also a member of the Robots Honor Society and Alpha Pi Mu Honor Society. She is originally from Spanish Town, Jamaica, and works at Hewlett Packard in Vancouver, Washington.

Portion of University Avenue Closed May 10-14

Physical Plant and Clark Construction have scheduled a temporary road closure of University Avenue between Chevrolet Avenue and Dupont Street May 10-14 to connect the Learning Commons’ water main. There is no expected disruption to service during this time.
Vehicle and pedestrian detours, which are to take Chevrolet Avenue or Dupont Street around the area, are identified on the map.
Deliveries to Shipping & Receiving will be permitted through the closure at Chevrolet Ave.

Volunteers Needed for Square One Event

The event, which will be at the MRC, is an innovative vehicle design competition for students in middle school and high school.

Take a Virtual Trip to Esslingen, Germany

The Office of International Programs will host virtual visits throughout the spring term to share information on daily life in the region, cultural experience, intercultural competencies, academics, campus and city tours, and more. The events are open to students interested in studying abroad in Germany, as well as students, staff and faculty who want to learn more about another country and culture.

The fourth event will be tomorrow, May 5 from 11 a.m. to noon. Dr. Joachim Berkemer, Cora Mathe, Holger Starzmann, Kremena Daneva and the Formula Student Team Esslingen of Esslingen University will be the presenters. They will talk about the University and city of Esslingen.

Esports to Have Summer Tryouts

The University Esports Team is taking applications for summer tryouts.

Anyone interested in playing the following games at a collegiate level, submit the corresponding tryout form. If you are interested in casting, coaching or providing analysis for any of the games, submit the game’s tryout form and indicate your interest on the form.

The coaching staff will contact you to confirm your tryout availability after your form is submitted. All tryouts will be done remotely at this time.

Friday, May 21, from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m., the Student Alumni Council (SAC) will host a live virtual event, featuring Moe Ghias (’17) as the speaker.
Ghias is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Training with the Titans, a physical fitness and nutrition business that features him as a virtual coach and trainer to clients around the world. He launched this business in 2017 soon after joining 3M as a Fluency Direct Adoption Specialist. He left 3M three years later to focus on his company full-time.
Ghias earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Bioinformatics from Kettering University in 2017. He since has also earned his fitness coach certification from the National Council for Certified Personal Trainers, as well as multiple awards for his performances as a bodybuilder and powerlifter.

Virtual Graphic Novel Club Meeting May 26

The Graphic Novel Club is having a virtual meeting at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 26.

The club is reading “The Vision,” which has ties to the current Disney+ series “WandaVision.” Limited print copies are available from the Library, and free ebooks are available here.
