Fall 2019 Society of Physics Students Zone Meeting
On behalf of SPS Zone 7, we would like to invite all students to attend our first SPS zone meeting for 2019‒20, which is being held in conjunction with the Fall 2019 Meeting of the Ohio-Region Section American Physical Society (OSAPS) at Kettering University on October 11‒12. This zone meeting is free, but you do need to fill out the RSVP form. We also welcome students from other nearby SPS zones including Zones 8 and 9.
Important Information
- OSAPS Registration
After you RSVP for the zone meeting, register for the OSAPS meeting, as it is also free for students. Pre-registration closes on September 27. (Registration will also be available later on site.) - APS Membership
If you are a student and not already a member of the APS, join APS, as it is free to students for the first year. Make sure to select the Ohio-Region Section of APS as one of your units. - SPS Update
The OSAPS meeting starts mid-day on Friday, but the first event of the zone meeting will be an update on SPS, Sigma Pi Sigma, and the 2019 Physics Congress (PhysCon) starting at 3:30 pm. (If you’re not already a member, you can join SPS as undergraduate for just $24, which includes membership in two more professional physics societies for up to three years!) - Posters & Prize
Students are encouraged to submit posters to the OSAPS meeting. The best undergraduate poster will receive an award! Abstracts must be submitted by September 20. The poster session will begin at 4:00 pm. - Banquet
OSAPS is sponsoring a nice banquet at the Flint Institute of Arts on Friday night after the poster session, which is only $15 for students. You can register for the banquet with your OSAPS conference registration. - Travel Funds
Travel funds are also available from OSAPS for full-time students who are first authors and who prepare their own presentations on research that they personally carried out. Apply online by October 4. - Other Activities
We are still planning out other activities for Friday and Saturday but they may include a visit to the dark side of the moon, launching large orange objects, and other fun! Watch your email for updates closer to the event.
Note that the RSVP form & OSAPS registration are independent, so please do both! We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to Kettering University!
